Established in 1994 by Dalrymple Holding Corp., Cedar Mountain Stone has become a major supplier of quality crushed stone and related products in the piedmont region of Virginia. The Dalrymple’s have been in the heavy and highway construction and construction materials industry since 1902. In an effort to expand their markets, Cedar Mountain Stone was founded.
Cedar Mountain Stone quickly grew into a full service aggregate supplier providing all sizes of VDOT approved aggregates. Over the years Cedar Mountain Stone has expanded their product lines to include specialized products such as stream restoration materials, security products, high quality topsoil and biofilter materials.
In 2004 Cedar Mountain Stone opened the Gainesville facility in Northern Virginia. The Gainesville yard is a rail served stone distribution center offering a full line of approved construction aggregate.
The Dalrymple Companies are involved in two related lines of business: heavy/highway construction, and construction materials, which includes crushed stone aggregates and the manufactured products of hot mix asphalt. The companies are currently being managed by the fourth generation of the Dalrymple family. The original business, a gravel supply operation, started in Elmira, NY, in 1902. In those days gravel was shoveled by hand and delivered to customers by horse-drawn wagon.
In 1936, Dalrymple Gravel & Contracting, the original company, was incorporated and a concrete plant was erected to serve the Elmira area. The company was one of the first in New York State to provide customers with ready-mix concrete delivered to the job site by truck.
Following World War II and through the 1950’s, the construction business dramatically expanded, and the company construction division grew into a multi-state operation that offered a wide variety of civil construction services. Today Chemung Contracting Corp., the construction company in the group, completes major highway, bridge, airport, and dam projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
The construction materials companies include the following wholly owned subsidiaries: Seneca Stone Corp., which serves the Seneca Falls area in Upstate New York; and Cedar Mountain Stone which serves the Culpeper and Central Virginia market. These companies mine, crush and sell state-approved aggregates. They also manufacture hot mix asphalt at each stone source location and at numerous distribution points associated with each main plant.
